DJI has sent invitations to members of the tech press, inviting them to attend an event in New York City on May 24th.
DJI doesn’t provide many hints as to what it will announce at the event. That said, most publications are speculating that DJI will use the event announce Spark, its smallest drone yet. An image of the drone appeared online earlier this month, showcasing an UAV that’s even smaller than the Mavic Pro, currently DJI’s smallest drone. Adding credence to the rumour, DJI recently trademarked the word “Spark.”
Based on the one image we have of the drone, it appears it does not feature the Mavic Pro’s signature foldable arms — though, as The Verge notes, it’s possible the drone show in the above image is a pre-production model.
That said, it’s safe to assume the Spark will cost less than any of DJI’s other drones. It’s also guaranteed to be lighter than any of the company’s other UAVs — critically, if Spark weighs less than 250 grams, it won’t be subject to Canada’s restrictive new drone regulations.
