Apple products have been getting expensive recently, all thanks to RAMageddon. However, with one Apple laptop, you might not even be able to get one today if you wanted to.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s MacBook Air is in such short supply that if you place an order for one today, you won’t receive it until the end of August — with some combinations of screen size, colour, and memory options not arriving until early September.
As I joked about in the beginning, Gurman noted that the MacBook Air shortage is indeed tied to the ongoing memory shortage (also known as RAMageddon). This shortage has affected the company across the board and has caused significant price increases for products like the iPhone 18 Pro, which outgoing CEO Tim Cook called “unavoidable.”
Interestingly, “Across its website and retail stores, Apple is prominently steering customers toward the base MacBook Pro instead of the Air — something it has rarely, if ever, done,” Gurman wrote in his newsletter for Bloomberg.
Now, it was also pointed out that the company is prioritizing the 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro over the Air in order to clear stock ahead of an M6 refresh
It was also noted that some marketing materials include a warning that reads “MacBook Air subject to availability.”
