Google addresses battery drain issue after update

Google is listening to its user base and course correcting

The only thing worse than having to restart your phone for an update is to have that update make your phone worse. Google is addressing the latter as many users have noticed their battery draining noticeably faster after a recent update.

According to a poll done by Android Authority, 75.9 per cent of the nearly 2,700 poll participants said they felt that their phone was draining faster on their Google Pixel devices. Only 15.2 per cent said their phone worked the same as it did before the update. The poll was held between April 14, 2026 and April 20, 2026.

Android Authority acknowledges that a poll about battery drain attached to a story will attract some people just looking to complain. However, with over 2,000 people actively acknowledging the problem exists, it cannot be ignored.

In this case, the customers’ cries have not fallen on deaf ears, as Google has acknowledged the problem in its Issue Tracker. Classified as a P1S1 – or high priority, high severity – issue, Google seems to be acknowledging and correcting the bug.

When multiple users claim that it is “impossible to pass the day without charging or an external battery,” on devices less than five years old, there is a serious issue that Google needs to address. Fortunately for users, Google is listening to its user base and course correcting.
