Apple Watch Series 11, Watch Ultra 3 and SE 3 don’t have 5G in Canada

Carriers don't always play nice

Apple has announced that its Watch Series 11, Watch SE 3 and the Watch Ultra 3 supports 5G, but this isn’t international as the Canadian users will not be getting this update.

Unfortunately, due to carriers Canadian models will only have 4G connectivity, and not 5G. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen issues with Canadian carriers not playing nice with companies. For instance, when RCS became available on iPhones, it wasn’t available for all carriers at launch, and was initially available at Telus, Freedom and Bell.

At this moment it’s unclear if the Canadian watches have 5G-enabled modems that are currently disabled, meaning a quick update will have 5G working on your smartwatches or, if the hardware is different and no Canadian Apple Watch from this gen will be able to access these features. It’s likely the former, but we’ve reached out to Apple to confirm.
