Some PlayStation Plus memberships are getting more expensive in Canada this week

PlayStation Plus is about to get more expensive.

On X (Twitter), PlayStation confirmed that the price of its subscription service will increase for new customers in select regions “due to ongoing market conditions.”

While the social media post didn’t clarify which membership tiers or regions are affected by this hike, MobileSyrup has confirmed with a PlayStation Canada representative that Canada is included and that the new pricing applies to PS Plus Essential.

Here’s the updated Essential pricing in Canada, effective May 20:

  • One month — $14.99 (up from $13.99)
  • Three months — $37.99 (up from $34.99)

The 12-month Essential membership, which costs $109.99, remains unchanged, as do the more expensive Extra and Premium tiers. Notably, these updates come just over one year after Sony increased the price of PlayStation Plus. At the time, all three membership tiers got more expensive, a move that Sony said would allow it to “continue to bring high-quality games and benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service.”

The PlayStation Plus hikes also come just one month after Sony raised the price of PS5 consoles by nearly $200 in Canada, which it attributed to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” But of course, Sony is not the only company raising costs. Last year, Microsoft raised Xbox Series X/S prices twice, and Canada was included in one of those hikes. And just earlier this month, Nintendo finally increased the price of the Switch 2 by $50 after months of rumours.
