Rogers Satellite now included in 5G+ plans for Atlantic Canada

Rogers is making its Satellite service available for free in all plans it offers to customers in Atlantic Canada.

Rogers Satellite, for those unfamiliar, allows your device to connect directly to satellites in areas where traditional cellular coverage is limited, such as deep outdoors or open water. The telecom giant notes that you can simply text like you normally would, and the satellites will “handle the rest.”

Rogers has noted that, due to satellite movement, devices using the service may disconnect and reconnect to the nearest available satellite. Rogers has also noted that messages may take longer than usual to send via satellite, and that you may get interrupted in obstructed areas.

To add some context, the company partnered with Starlink last year to launch the service and has since expanded coverage to areas such as Canadian waters to help users stay connected while exploring. Rogers has also added the ability for the service to work with apps such as Google Maps, WhatsApp, X (surprise, surprise), AccuWeather, and more.

The company’s full coverage map is on its website. The service is also available to all Canadians, regardless of carrier, for $15 per month.

For the time being, Rogers is offering free Rogers Satellite access to customers in Atlantic Canada on all its 5G+ plans. The two Essentials and Popular plans gets 12 months free, while the pricier Ultimate plan gets 24 months free. In other regions, Rogers only includes free Satellite with the Popular and Ultimate plans (12 and 24 months, respectively) while offering a discounted $10/mo rate for the first 12 months for those on the Essentials plan.
