Nintendo has announced its first Direct presentation of 2026 will be focused entirely on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
On Twitter, the company confirmed that the stream will be held on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET on YouTube. It’s rather unusual timing for a Direct, given that they’ve historically taken place on weekdays. Nintendo notes that no games will be featured during the presentation.
Join us on Sunday, Jan 25, at 6am PT for the #NintendoDirect featuring an exclusive look at The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Please note that no game information will be included in this presentation.

Nintendo held the first Direct for the Illumination animated movie in November, during which it dropped the first trailer. We also got confirmation that Brie Larson (Room) and director-actor Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems) will voice Rosalina and Bowser Jr., respectively.
Presumably, the January 25 stream will reveal the next trailer and, perhaps, show off additional characters. For instance, we know both from the post-credits scene of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and a leaked cookie box that Yoshi will be in the movie. Perhaps we’ll get a good look at the green dinosaur, as well as word on who’s voicing him.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie features returning directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and stars Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan Michael-Key (Toad) and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek). It will open in theatres on April 3, 2026.
The film is part of Nintendo’s wider celebrations of last year’s 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Those commemorations also included a remaster of Mario Galaxy and its sequel, which, of course, serve as the main inspiration for the upcoming animated movie. Nintendo will also release a Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder in March alongside a Talking Flower accessory based on the game.
Finally, it should be noted that we’re likely due for a main Nintendo Direct soon, given that the last one was in September. While the company has already confirmed some Switch 2 games for this year, including FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods, Splatoon Raiders and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, we don’t know release windows. Hopefully, we’ll learn more soon.
