Nintendo’s next weird accessory is a Mario-themed talking flower

Launching in March, shortly before the Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Nintendo Talking Flower

Last year, Nintendo released Alarmo, an alarm clock featuring visuals and music from some of its most popular games. Now, the company is about to follow that up with another quirky accessory: Talking Flower.

As the name suggests, it’s based on the speaking plant of the same name from 2023’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder. After its unveiling during the September Nintendo Direct, the company has now confirmed that it will launch on March 12, 2026.

In case you missed it originally (and I actually did because I was at TIFF), the accessory will automatically talk around twice per hour about various things. For instance, he might comment on how it’s weird that a flower can talk, or he’ll ask whether Bowser and his buds can track you both down.

If you want to prompt him to say something, you can press the button on his base. In this case, he might remind you to eat your vegetables or thank you for sticking with him for so long. You can also hold down the button to get him to be quiet for a while.

He also has alarm functionality, and he’ll make comments accordingly depending on the time of day. “Perfect weather for a nap, huh?” “Night-time’s kinda thrilling.” “What’ll I dream about tonight?” That said, when he wakes you up, he might mess with you and give you the wrong time. (Imagine a kid telling their teacher they were late for class because a talking Mario flower lied to them about when to wake up.)

Other Talking Flower features include a room temperature sensor for further contextual comments, warnings when his battery is low and a music mode that plays audio from Wonder. He also supports 11 languages, including English, French, Spanish and Chinese.

The Talking Flower will be sold in Canada through Nintendo’s online store for $39.99. It’s now available for pre-purchase.

It’s worth noting that the accessory’s launch will come shortly before the Switch 2 version of Wonder, which includes extra content like the new Bellabell Park. The awkwardly named Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park launches on March 26.
