Samsung will officially release the Galaxy Z TriFold on December 12 in South Korea. This handset, with two hinges, is planned to launch in the first quarter of 2026 in the U.S. However, I wouldn’t get your hopes up if you live in Canada. Canadians didn’t officially get the first Galaxy Fold, and we unfortunately won’t get our hands on the Galaxy XR for now either.
However, if it does come out in Canada, it’ll be pricey — the device costs KRW ₩3,590,400 (about C$3,418) for the 512GB of storage in Korea.
This phablet sports a 10-inch inner screen with a 2160 x 1584-pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate that drops to 1Hz. The TriFold lets you use three apps vertically side by side and even use Samsung’s DeX mode. The outer screen sports a 6.5-inch 1080p display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The panels all have different thicknesses, with the thickest being 4.2mm. The thinnest panel is 3.9mm thick, and the other panel is 4.0mm thick.
Samsung’s two outer panels fold inward over the center panel, with the back of the middle panel featuring that 6.5-inch screen. This is quite different from Huawei’s Z-shaped foldable. When the handset is in phone mode, it’s about 12.9mm thick, which is quite thick for any smartphone. Surprisingly, the TriFold is only 0.8mm thicker than the Z Fold 6 that came out in 2024; however, more than 3mm thicker than 2025’s Z Fold 7.
Samsung says the handset undergoes a 200,000-cycle multi-folding test, roughly the same as folding 100 times a day for five years.
The back panel reportedly sports “ceramic-glass fibre-reinforced polymer,” which is supposed to resist cracking. The handset is IP48 water resistant, but isn’t completely dustproof, which is kind of similar to the Z Fold 7. The device reportedly features a 200-megapixel primary shooter with an f/1.7 aperture, a 12-megapixel ultrawide and a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera. The phone’s cover screen and inner screen sport 10-megapixel sensors. In total, the device has 5,600mAh capacity, but there are three batteries making up this capacity. It also has the Snapdragon 8 Elite spotted in the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and S25 series and includes 16GB of RAM.
It’ll be weird when this device launches in the U.S. with last year’s Snapdragon processor, when the S26 series will likely feature Qualcomm’s newer and better Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
The Verge was able to confirm that the TriFold isn’t compatible with the S Pen, similar to the Z Fold 7. We’ve reached out to Samsung regarding Canadian availability.
