Freedom Mobile launches 5G Home Internet starting at $24/mo

Freedom is offering the service exclusively to existing mobile customers to start

Freedom Mobile now offers home internet powered by its 5G wireless network, which the company positions as a more affordable option for light users.

Per details emailed to MobileSyrup, Freedom said that its new 5G Home Internet service will be available in select markets to start, with limited spots available. The company will contact eligible existing customers with invitations to sign up. However, it’s not clear which markets will have access.

The carrier is reserving spots for invited customers, but those who don’t receive an invite can register on Freedom’s website to receive notification if a spot opens up in their area.

Moreover, Freedom’s website notes that mobile service is required. The company offers a three-month grace window where subscribers can keep 5G Home Internet at a higher price, but the carrier warns it will cancel the internet service if customers don’t have mobile service for over three months.

Freedom 5G Home Internet will start at $24/mo when combined with an eligible Freedom mobile plan. Below are the introductory offers listed on Freedom’s website:

  • $24/mo 200GB ($60/mo without mobile).
  • $24/mo 600GB ($80/mo without mobile).
  • $44/mo 1,000GB ($100/mo without mobile).

Regardless of which plan you go with, Freedom promises up to 100Mbps download speeds and up to 10Mbps upload speeds. All three of the plans include Freedom’s ‘Price Freeze Promise’ that prices won’t increase as long as customers keep their mobile plan. Further, the plans include a Nokia Gateway Wi-Fi 7 device with TradeUp for 24 months at $0/mo.

Overall, the new 5G Home Internet service looks like a promising new offer from Freedom, especially if the price is right (and the introductory pricing looks pretty good to me). The service won’t work for everyone — a heavy internet user like myself, who regularly streams, games, and works from home, might find the data caps and up/download speeds insufficient — but for light users in need of a lower-cost internet option, this definitely sounds promising.
