Netflix no longer supports casting from a mobile device to most TVs and streaming devices.
The news was first shared by users in the Chromecast Subreddit a few weeks ago, with Android Authority later spotting a Netflix support page confirming the change. As one Reddit user mentioned, Netflix gave “zero warning” about this.
Further, Netflix’s help page doesn’t offer any reasoning for the move, with one Reddit user claiming that a company customer service rep said that devices with remotes can no longer cast, and the decision was made to “improve” the user experience.
On its support page, Netflix simply notes that “most TVs and TV-streaming devices” are no longer supported. The streamer says you’ll now need to use the remote that came with your TV or streaming device to navigate its platform.
The only exceptions are those on older Chromecast devices or TVs that work with Google Cast. These people will be able to continue casting from these devices — for now, at least. That said, this functionality isn’t available to those on ad-supported Netflix plans, meaning only those who are subscribed to Standard ($18.99/month) or Premium ($23.99/month).
