Netflix is bringing its gaming service to the TV

A total of six games are headed to the platform for now

Netflix Games

The ability to play games through Netflix has been available for a while on mobile, but now, you can finally play them on your TV, alongside a slate of new party games.

How it works is that the TV acts as the monitor, with your phone being used as the controller. You can even play local multiplayer games as long as everyone has a phone.

Netflix didn’t add many new games for the TV, and by the sounds of this press release, the company is sticking mostly to party games, leaving titles like the recently announced Red Dead Redemption to its mobile services. Interestingly, NBC News added that Netflix could take advantage of some of its popular IPs (Squid Game, Stranger Things, etc.) and develop party games based on them to attract more casual audiences who may enjoy the shows. However, the company has tried that with mobile games before to varying degrees of success.

Here is the list of the games that will be coming to the TV:

  • Boggle Party — supports one to eight players
  • LEGO Party — supports one to four players
  • Party Crashers: Fool Your Friends — supports three to six players
  • Pictionary: Game Night — supports two to ten players
  • Tetris Time Warp — supports one to four players
  • Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game (coming soon)

Another thing to note is that most games on the list support more than just the classic four players, allowing larger groups to play at once rather than taking turns. You can read more about each game in Netflix’s press release, or the company has a longer 12-minute introduction video to the feature you can watch instead.
