Blizzard wants gamer blood for a special Diablo IV PC giveaway

The blood-filled PC is for a good cause, but it's nonetheless weird

Blizzard has kicked off a decidedly strange Diablo IV PR stunt that only a video game company would do.

To coincide with the recent launch of the action-RPG’s new Season of Blood content update, Blizzard is encouraging fans to donate, well, blood. While that sounds well and good, Blizzard has gone a few steps further to make it decidedly weird by tying that into a yet-to-be-revealed giveaway for a custom liquid-cooled PC infused with real human blood.

Specs-wise, it’ll sport an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, Intel Core i9 CPU, 64GB of DDR5 RAM, 3 TB SSD Storage and Quantum Vector GPU Waterblock. It’s unclear how much human blood will actually make its way into the PC, considering that the whole purpose of this campaign is to get donations for live-saving treatments.

Blizzard will offer the special PC in a contest once 666 quarts of blood — roughly 1,300 donations — have been made in the U.S. That said, special weapon and armour cosmetics and a Vermillion Eye Piepald Mount will be unlocked for all players, not just those in the U.S., upon reaching 33 percent, 66 percent and 100 percent of the targeted number of donations.

At the time of writing, the campaign has hit 28 percent of its target. You can check progress updates here. Blizzard says the full terms and conditions of the giveaway will be revealed upon the 100 percent completion of the campaign.

The campaign comes a few weeks after the Red Cross announced a national blood shortage in the U.S. Of course, you don’t have to be in the U.S. to donate blood. On the whole, it’s a great cause for something that’s always in dire need everywhere — Canada is no exception.

In Canada, you can donate blood through Canadian Blood Services. Those in Quebec can do so at Hema Quebec. Across Canada, more than 100,000 new donors are needed every year, yet under two percent of the country’s roughly 17.5 million eligible donors actually donate. Find out if you’re eligible to donate here.
