League, the health benefits startup created and helmed by Kobo co-founder Mike Serbinis, has launched a full suite of insurance products.
In a statement released on October 12th, the company said it selected RBC Insurance as its first partner to underwrite the new offerings.
“It’s about time a 100 percent digital experience came to the health benefits market. League’s platform connects healthcare providers, employers, and consumers to provide a comprehensive digital health benefits experience,” said Serbinis.
“As one of Canada’s most trusted insurers, RBC Insurance is an ideal carrier for us to launch our service with.”
The expanded offerings include a “peace of mind” plan that provides comprehensive coverage for unexpected emergencies and group life and health insurance products for life, disability and accidental death and dismemberment.
These new products join League’s previous offerings for businesses: digital health spending accounts, lifestyle spending accounts, and workplace health services, delivered to employees through its mobile app. The app allows users to access health professionals, send secure messages, book appointments in real-time and make digital payments.
“The biggest pain when it comes to healthcare is just getting an appointment, or paying, or finding a doctor, or figuring out where that stupid booklet is that explains what you’re allowed to do,” Serbinis stated in a previous interview with MobileSyrup.
“We’ve made it something you can do from your phone in a matter of seconds.”
In June 2016, League raised $25 million USD (about $32 million CAD) in Series A funding, one of the largest Canadian deals in recent history.
