After what seems like countless months of A/B testing, Facebook Messenger is about to get a Material Design-inspired makeover.
David Marcus, the head of Messenger, showed off the app’s new look on his Facebook Wall (seen above).
“If you’re using Messenger on Android, you’ve been wanting a brand new material design for a bit,” he said in the post accompanying the announcement. “Any major redesign of an essential app used by hundreds of millions of people around the world is painstakenly hard, and that’s why we took every precaution to ensure you’d truly enjoy this evolution.”
As The Next Web notes, this is the first time Facebook has redesigned one of its apps to feature a unique look on a single platform. For the most, the social media giant tries to keep its app offerings consistent among the various platforms they’re available on.
The update is scheduled to start rolling out later today. When it’s available, download it by visiting the Google Play Store.
