We’re live in Waterloo at RIM headquarters with a hands-on of the brand new BlackBerry Bold 9790. This is the companion device to the Bold 9900 released earlier this year. It’s a tiny little device, noticeably thinner than the Bold 9700/9780 and a definite build quality improvement too. It adheres pretty closely to the new industrial design implemented earlier this year in the Curve 9360 and Torch 9860. While the company is focusing on aspirational customers overseas (the primary target for the product) RIM expects the Bold 9790 to do quite well in North America, for those who feel the Bold 9900 is a little too big for their hands.
In addition to the size differentiations, the main improvement over the Bold 9900 is the addition of a 5MP autofocus camera, though it does not capture 720p video but rather VGA.
The overall specs are:
– BlackBerry 7 OS
– 1Ghz Marvell processor
– 768MB RAM, 8GB internal storage
– 2.44″ 480×360 pixel capacitive touchscreen
– 5MP autofocus camera with flash
– 1230mAh battery
– NFC capabilities
