OPP issued an average of 165 tickets a day during the recent distracted driving initiative

The OPP have been on a mission to educate the public on the impacts of distracted driving. Over the past few weeks they’ve implemented their “Phone in One Hand, Ticket in the Other” initiative, one of the main focus areas was to ticket those drivers who were caught talking or texting. Today the OPP released some depressing stats. Between September 12-18th a total the OPP “laid an average of 165 distraction-related charges daily” and six fatal motor vehicle collisions… taking this number and multiplying it by the 4 week campaign adds up to about 660 tickets – the fine is $155 for using your device, specifically talking and texting.
