Koodo launching new data flex plan November 21st

The above brochure is a plan that Koodo Mobile will be putting in place on November 21st. It’s a new data flex plan and gives more data for a lower price. If you go over your monthly data usage you’ll automatically be bumped to the next price level. Here’s what you can expect (good for the new iPhone 4S and upcoming Android devices) :

$5/month: 0MB – 25MB
10/month: 26MB – 100MB
$15/month: 101MB – 300MB
$20/month: 301MB – 1GB
$30/month: 1GB – 3GB (anything overage rate of 2c/MB)

(Thanks tipster!)

  4. More generous than the previous Data flex options. If I was shopping around for phone plans right now, it would be hard to find anything better than Koodo in my opinion (Data, no long distance, billed by the second, etc…)

This is for a national coverage provider. Obviously new entrants are more competitive than this.

At the end of the day though, it’s a step in a positive direction, no matter how fair you deem those rates.

    • It’s a pretty tiny step considering $30 on this plan gets you 1-3GB and Mobi and Winds plans are $10 for unlimited data.

  7. looks like a pricing scheme that will benefit occasional data user and hurt heavy hitters…

  8. Niceeee…. I have the 2 GB for $25, but right now I’m not even close to that limit, more like 500 MB, so I’d save money if I choose this flex option.

    • hey Todd,

Could you post a copy of your bill (with personal info blurred out) so I can use it when talking to Koodo?

    • How can KOODO offer 6 GB of data for $25 dollars when there is no retentions to be had cause there is no contracts you i***t and the only thing they have is a tab which is a form of a contract i guess but talked to koodo and the guy laughed cause he said we don’t have a retention department. If you don’t like us you can leave with your phone or pay the tab and leave lol

  10. This is a great change for Koodo. But hopefully this is true and it’s not just a Province thing (Quebec since it’s in French)

The Telus plans having Canada-Wide implemented and turning out to be active in 1 or 2 provinces but Ontario not being included.

In the long run it’s still expensive compared to Wind/Mobilicity offering unlimited data..

  13. why hasn’t koodo released a 6gb data plan on their website like every other company has done. just wondering cause koodo had giving me a retention deal about a month ago for $25 per month for 6gb of data. but why haven’t they put it on their website officially so everyone would know that this retention deal is being offered. this new data flex plan looks lame compared to the 6gb for $25 koodo gave me.

  15. I paid $0/month for unlimited data on Mobilicity during a promotion they had. It was amazing. Except that I had no network in 80% of the places I was on a daily basis and anywhere outside of Toronto.

If you want quantity, you can pay next to nothing for it. If you want quality, break out the bank.

  16. Sweet, I know the Nexus S is an older model, but I’m thinking of upgrading from a koodo Blackberry to Android since its getting the new Ice Cream Sandwich OS. I was wondering what koodo nexus s customers feel about the phone, over all good ? I’m a cash strapped student so i was thinking about the $20 dollar plan, $10 call display/voicemail/ulmt text, and the new flex.

    • @Jason I just got the Nexus S and am a new Koodo customer. If you are not concerned about no hd camera and no led notification I suggest you sign up with Koodo and get the Nexus S. ICS on this phone is going to be amazing. Plus you can do a lot of customizations on the Nexus S. The new flex data rates is another incentive to join Koodo and you won’t have to worry about dropped calls, away zones and no signals like Moblicity and Wind.

    • I have had the nexus s since it came to canada. it is a great phone with up to date updates. But just remember if you do even a little bit of surfing, data syncing with social networking site and apps you will eat through 500MB of data very easily.

  18. U guys promoting wind and all the other new carriers are al f’ed in the head. If u all took your head out of your asses maybe u would realize that people actually leave the cities from time to time and people actually do live outside the cities. So all the new entrants can go suck my balls. Canada Wide Baby is where its at!

  19. WHY can’tt all carriers have a lower “overage fee” of 2¢ or less? This goes to WIND, too, which has higher fees on limited plans, as well as Bell/Chatr/etc. which charges 10¢/MB or more? Why so many huge overage fees?

Just pointing that out. Koodo is agressive, and the City Koodo/3 GB for $65 is pretty solid. :)

  21. While this is a step in the right direction for consumers, it still reeks of big 3 pricing. You can get a $30 for 6GB data add on, but with this you are paying $30 for 3GB on the highest tier… Same price, half the data. To be in line with their $30/6GB, the pricing should be like this:

    $5/month: 26MB – 100MB
    $10/month: 101MB – 300MB
    $15/month: 301MB – 1GB
    $20/month: 1GB – 3GB
    $30/month: 3GB – 6GB (anything overage rate of 2c/MB)

Again, they are playing games with consumers. To get the $30/6GB (which gives you the most value), you probably have to sign a 3 year commitment with their “premium brand” carrier. Otherwise, you go with Koodo which has no contract but gives you half the data for the same price… or even worse, if you don’t even use more than 1GB of data per month, you still pay $20. Then you realize that if you paid an extra $10, you could get way more data (even if you don’t use it… but you might some day), and be inclined to sign a 3 year to get some value.

It seems like they give you some tough choices.

  26. according to my account page on koodo, this will come into effect on November 28.

Save more with our Data Saver Add-on!
Starting at $5/month, Data Saver automatically fits you in the right data group every month based on what you use.

Plus, as of November 28, 2011, the data buckets will increase, giving you up to 3 times more data for your money! For more info, visit koodomobile.com/datasaver.

i dont know how to copy pictures onto posts, but anybody who does and is a koodo customer should be able to find this. its at the bottom of the “overview” page in self-serve.

  28. From Koodo’s point of view, this new add-on is probably a revenue increase (except for low-usage customers who used between 5 and 25 MByte).

    a) The 5$ are now charged in advance for the following month. For the company as a whole this earns a bit of interest and reduces the bad debt a little.

    b) The 5$ are charged even if the customer uses no data at all in the following month. Until now, you weren’t charged if you had no data usage in the billing cycle.
