Rumour: Telus launching Milestone on January 26th?

TELUS is getting ready to launch anther Android device, this time it’s the Motorola Milestone and is targeted to hit us Canadians “early 2010″.

We received tips late last week that this was officially launching on Tuesday, January 26th. We reached out for confirmation and our conversations with TELUS stated the Milestone “will not be this month”. However more rumours are circling of availability in a couple weeks if everything is “on time”: “I’ve received confirmation from my Telus rep that the Milestone will be scheduled to launch January 26th on the Telus network; provided that it launches “on time”.

Time will only tell if this will be available in a couple weeks… the real question is how many people will jump on board and get one?

    1. Rather wait for Nexus One Canada/HSPA. They really need to stop getting devices months after the USA/other countries. By the time we get it, it’s outdated. Mobile market needs to slow the hell down.

    2. It’s either this or the Hero, I’ll probably go with the Milestone because of it’s physical keyboard and the fact that it’s newer and the camera has a flash.

    6. I really hope this is true. This is the phone I have been waiting for since they announced it in November.

    7. This a great phone but I agree with Andrew, I’d rather have a Nexus.

    8. ” By the time we get it, it’s outdated”

and the same will happen with the Nexus One. i been waiting for the Droid/Milestone for a long time, but now i also want a Nexus One. when Nexus comes to canada there will be another phone out that i’ll want to wait for. is there a reason why phones always come out so late in Canada?

    9. The nexus one is not really ahead of the droid; they have the same processor, the nexus one has amoled but the droid a keyboard; same camera; same OS…. anyone see how there isn’t that big of a difference? More over, we tend to get the high-end HTC WM devices a few months before the US :p

    10. This is actually good. Announced in November, out in January. Especially once you consider the Milestone wasn’t release at the same time the Droid did.

For the other Android phones: This is much faster then Hero, worth it. Altough I would love to see Sense ported on this!
Nexus one is anything but confirmed to be in the works on the 850/1900 bands of Bellus/Rogers,Fido… So IMO you could wait a long time. Or switch to Wind when they get it =)

Next phone people might want to look forward is the espresso ( Hero follow up?) and the HTC Bravo ( Nexus one for ATT/Telus/Rogers? ) and maybe some un-released/announced ATT Motorola/HTC

    11. Eh, I always thought the Droid / Milestone look incredibly ugly. Spec-wise though, certainly top notch.

I’m not so sure I’m feeling this whole Android thing either.

Come onnnnnnnnnnn Palm Pre Plus ( :P )

    12. My TREO broke, so I wnent to an older treo I had lying around, that broke, now i am using a 8 year old Samsung.

I am holding off for the Milestone/Droid – every review says great great things about it.

I got a Itouch and starting connecting to google calendar/gmail – life is great.

      Day 1 – I am getting one.

I will be very despondent if they delay after the 26th.

    13. Actually, Nexus One has significantly more up to date hardware. CPU is better by a good margin, twice as much RAM, better (indoor) screen, smaller package etc.

The only reason to get Droid right now is because you need the keyboard. Otherwise, I don’t see why you would get Droid over Nexus One.

    16. Even with slightly lesser hardware then the Droid this sounds like a great phone.

My concern, though, is will they get rid of the 2100 MHz 3G support on the N.A. version of this phone.

The N97, Bold, and iPhone all support 2100 as well as 850/1900, but this seems to be hard to find on an Android phone.

    17. @ynbae

I agree, julien needs to get his facts straight lol. Nexus One is powered by a 1ghz snapdragon processor. I believe the droid is clocked at 550mhz. IMO that’s a pretty big jump! I like the droid… I just wish it had that snapdragon beast =/

    20. @darron, droid was verizon exclusive branded phone, while i understand it is the same hardware, verizon paid lucas lots of money for the rights to the name droid to compete with the iphone (which they may end up getting anyways since there are rumours that apple may make a version for verizon)its merely a marketing tactic cause the name milestone wouldnt been so compelling

    21. For those wishing they kept the name droid, it was probably changed in other markets due to the fact Motorola had to pay fees to George Lucas for using the term droid, which apparently George Lucas owns the rights to :/

    22. It looks a lot like the Nokia N900 but it’s a Motorola phone, which in other words mean that it’s absolute CRAP!

    23. The motorola droid and milestone are two different phones. Spec wise they are identical but the operate on two different networks which means two different frequency boards. Milestone will be HSPA not CDMA so it’ll be faster than the “droid”. Also, the Nexusone runs on all frequencies of HSPA and AWS so all it takes is a little unlocking and your good to go on any network of your choice :) .

    24. @Ethan: That’s not true. These were old rumor.

Nexus One is only AWS HSPA 1700/2100.

Also is already sold unlock from google.com/phones.

We have no clue if a 850/1900 HSPA version is in the work

    25. No you can’t use the Nexus One on any network, not if you plan to use 3G. They’ve stated it won’t work on AT&T 3G only edge and Rogers is the same as AT&T.

    26. wouldn’t mind that milestone, hate that stupid d-pad that’s looks more like it shoukd read your finger print.. lol that ish takes up to much keyboard space.. but like most ppl, by that time its launched I won’t want it anymore.. and as much as I like andriod I don’t think I could use it as my daily OS, but there’s really no phone I want in canada.. and no good windows phones lately… maybe when HD2 launches with t-mobile 1700 AWS bands – HELLO WIND!

    27. Does anybody know (as opposed to random speculation!!) whether the Telus Milestone will be quad-band GSM or only 2-band? I’m talking the regular freqs, not the 3G here. The offical Moto page [1] seems to imply that it’s only 2-band (on the same freqs as the 3G, viz, 850/1900), but (a) it looks like a copy-n-paste from the 3G section, and (b) that would be immensely stupid – when roaming in Europe I could live with non-3G, but I’d sure hate to do with “No signal”. Remember, he’s looking for facts, not guesses :-)

    28. I queried Motorola Canada about whether the Milestone would be a quad-band phone. This is the answer that I received:

Thanks for reaching out to Motorola. I’ve reviewed your e-mail and I’m ready to help.

Regarding your concern, please note that the Motorola Milestone offered in Canada is not a quad band phone since will only work under GSM 850/1900. We don’t have information about the European version.

We hope that you find this information useful and look forward to assisting you in the future.

Thank you for contacting Motorola e-mail support.

      Best Regards

I could hardly believe this as it means that this phone won’t work in Europe and most other areas outside of N.America. I have, in fact asked for confirmation, and the question has been escalate to the second level of Motorola support. I am still awaiting a reply.
