Still no official word on what the price plans or what devices they will have… but the date is only a few hours away and those who are located in Toronto and Calgary will get first dibs on how it feels to make calls, surf the web from your Wind Mobile device!

Not sure I will be buying a WIND mobile device. Just based on the selection at launch of course. I’m really interested in an Omnia 2 from Bell

Wind va s’appeler videtron au qc pi y vont avoir des mossus de bons prix. Wind pi videotron vont appartenir a globalive, une entreprise égyptienne. À partir du moment ou videotron arrive, la guerre est ouverte.

finally, although I will be waiting for Dave wireless as well at least for time being, since I am interested in Android/IPhone Devices only.
GO WIND GO…..

I only hope that Wind Mobile will directly be a factor on a price reduction on other carriers….
Unfortunatly, since i’m in the province of Quebec, this is the only thing I can do and, waiting on Videotron….

I was, but based on the leaked plans, I am staying (not to mention I do not have to pay ECF if I stay).
The plan dont fit my needs. They are trying to sell me a rolls royce instead of a honda that I wanted in the first place!!!

Ill wait for the officials before I decide. Need to get the gf a new cell phone, so Im hoping they are going to have some great low cost options.

Congrats on the scoop guys!
No one else is reporting this yet, not even on Wind’s official site!
EXCITING TIMES INDEED!!

Until they get realistic with the plans and prices – no thanks. Of course I am basing this on rumoured plans which unless you pay $45 a month you are limited to 50 outgoing text messages. Plus coverage from only Oshawa to Stoney Creek? Yikes.
I’m probably going to switch to Bell. I have unlocked e63 which should work with the new network that they launched.
I was really excited for WIND, oh well.

Just cross your fingers that you don’t have to call them, signing up with Bell is signing for 3 years of hell.

I concur, I’ve been waiting since May when my contract expired to jump ship. Bell is brutal.

Hope Wind doesn’t push back any further or they will loose the momentum that they have built with all the advertising hype. And the plans will have to do better than the speculated plans.

I am interested, but the service will probably not suit me as I live in Gatineau,QC. Wonder if people who live in Ottawa and travel to the other side of the bridge will want a phone that does not work in QC. Also, 100 minutes of province wide calling…what if you live in Ottawa and call someone in Gatineau, is that local calling or long distance?

I’ve lived in Ottawa for 35 years and can probably list on two hands the number of times I’ve called across the river.
I would think they would charge to call internationally into Quebec.

Well from the leaked price plans, I would sign up with Wind in a second. But living in Quebec, it will be a few years before we even see them here. Also for people who are waiting for videotron dont whole your breath, they wont offer anything near the lines of the big 3 or Wind for the simple fact that they only have spectrum in Quebec.
Reply
I’m definitely lining up before it opens!!!
And to those who say WIND doesn’t suit you:
1) Of course network is limited, they just started up! And you’d be roaming on Rogers.
2) WIND is not a discount brand. We’ve been accustomed to subsidized phones and chained down to ridiculous contracts. WIND offers more value for what you pay, they’re clearly targeting the high-end business users.
3) And yes, I believe WIND will be the best carrier (at least initially) because they’re MTM; if anything goes wrong, then people will just leave! They can’t let that happen, thus they’ll work hard to keep subscribers happy.
CAN’T WAIT.

i cant believe how many times i have seen the words “no contract” and “wind”, everyone is missing the whole point…….. YOU HAVE THAT OPTION WITH YOUR CURRENT PROVIDER but people are cheap and never want to pay the full price for phones. I also read that it was more expensive on Bell for a MTM but that is a lie to, i know for a fact that Telus or Bell charge no more for a MTM than a 3 Year Deal, this is a message for everyone saying this on this site….. NO ONE FORCED YOU TO SIGN THESE 3 YEAR DEALS no one was ging to cut your service off if you didnt sign and ya sure if you want to sign up and get a deal on a new phone or some free features do it then but take a second and think about what your getting for the price, and yes there are some BAD deals out there i do agree with that and i also agree that there needs to be more competition in Canadan. But ….. people need to just slow down and wait until all the facts come out, and i know what is going to happen Wed morning at your local Wind store , there is going to be a big line of people and half them are going to walk away and go “i have to pay what for a phone on MTM?!!!!” And hey you never know, has anyone ever thought that Wind is not telling you the whole truth, there adds and interviews are all to one point better plans and cheaper prices for Canadians. Maybe they just know they can come to Canada and charge more for there plans here than anywere else in the world…. i dont know and neather does anyone else on this website.

Did anyone hear the latest about the telecommunications union (something) trying to force the government to reverse it’s decision on WIND? I mean seriously, these people must not have anything else to do! Competition is the soul of a free market, without it, it becomes a monopoly, and we get stuck with the 2nd worst cellphone rates in the world. Canada’s conservative – and over-precautionary, IMO – laws dampen the amount of money people are willing to put into our economy. Yes, there are more risks with opening up to more foreign investment, BUT the gains are also that much greater. I think Canada needs to revise its trade laws – we live in a globalized world where multinational corporations are almost unavoidable, so we need to start embracing them – at least a little bit – instead of shutting them out so much.

We don’t shut out foreigners. Look at the mining business. More and more Chinese companies are scooping up our mining companies or taking large positions in them and the government isn’t stepping in. I guess it all depends of which side of a story you sit on.

This whole thing is a huge government $$$ grab. They sold them spectrum ($442 million) without making sure that the company’s structure was in line with the telecommunications act. People are saying they want more competition, but bending the rules because somebody wants to save face is not the way to go about it. I for one think this is an election issue. Down with the Harper Conservatives. Our cellphone rates are higher because our population is not dense like it is in Europe or even the USA.

Yes Joel,
Please make this an “election issue”. Please waste 300 million of our money to have the same result since very few “average Canadians” even KNOW about Globalive unless those who are watching have mentioned it.
Then you can cast your vote for Layton for the third time in 5 years and still lose.

Please stop saying our population is not as dense as in some European countries. we may have a HUGE country, but 90% of the population is located next to the CAN-US border. Toronto to be a prime example, 8 million people in 100 sq. miles. we pay more because of no competition in any of our industries and not because of dispersed population

Yes we have dense urban centres, but we cannot ignore rural Canada when it comes to telecommunications. If you need an example consider that in some places $100,000 worth of telecoms equipment is servicing less than ten households.
I never said that I didn’t want to see more competition, in fact I too would love a cheaper cellphone bill!
This issue for me is more about our government taking a law that says Canadian telcos must be Canadian owned, and just ignoring it.
Orascom is an Egyptian company. The CRTC inquiry found that Globallive is controlled by Orascom. Therefore Globallive is not a Canadian company and should never have been allowed in the aws auction in the first place.
The fact that the government is just saying “never mind that law” is frightening to me.
But besides that, I am really excited for WIND! =D My contract ends next year, so hopefully, their services will have stabilized by then, and they’ll have the right plan (for me) by then

they aren’t doing anything to make the competition better. Sure they are month to month, but you can get that anyway with the other providers. WIND has said you have to buy the handset outright, go to Rogers/Bell/Telus buy your BB outright and you can go month to month.
Wind = more of the same

Agreed. No one is making you sign a contract at Bell/Telus and you can buy any phone you want without signing. The phone prices don’t even look like deals.

I’m hearing $300 for a smartphone.
Go to bell and drop down a smartphone on mtm, it’s more than $300 usually. More like $400+.

How exactly are they more of the same? Where did they say you “had” to buy the handset outright?
Based on the “leaked” plans which trump anything available to Canadians (Primarily the most expensive plan) I don’t see how you could consider WIND remotely close to Robelus.

After my contract with Rogers is over next December I will definitely look at WIND for options.

Aren’t they gonna roam on Robbers outside of their coverage area?

Yeah!!!!!
Go ahead, take the Big 3 down!!!!

Good byeeee rogers! Worst customer service ever.

Like I anticipated, if the leaked plans are true, its all hype. Wind created alot of hoopla over their launch with “conversation”. That’s great, but the plans are sub-par and I actually pay less with one of the big three for voice and data.
Hate to say it, but I’m happy with who I’m with. Maybe in a few yrs, Wind will have something worth purchasing.

Wait, how big is their network? Is it just in Toronto or do I signal in most of Ontario?

It’s going to be in the major cities, starting with TO and Cowtown.
Roaming is on Rogers, so it’s going to be their network outside major centres.

Love there leaked plans though, i will need to see what they have for plans and options, devices to of course .. they should definitly drive costs down for tha looks of whats leaked they be offering! thanks globalive and orsacom.. good for you… and down with tha big three..

Smartphones with no contracts means $600 Blackberries!! I don’t have $600-$800 to shell out on a smartphone especially not before Christmas! I heard they will be buying out contracts up to $300 on the spot!! That will be really neat if it’s true. The leaked plans kind of suck to be honest…..maybe they are fake and the real ones will be great- We’ll see i guess.

1700Mhz and 2100Mhz. For a phone to operate on WIND it needs to use both frequencies, one for uplink and one for downlink.

having worked selling all the major wireless brands in canada and being under contract of two of them (Bell and Rogers) I can honestly say that I believe Rogers is the best canada has to offer at the moment. I have high hopes that wind will stir things up though. Customer service is the one thing that is REALLY lacking in the canadian wireless industry. Bell and Telus when youy have a complaint your calling india but when they want something canada calls you. Virgin’s reps are all incredibly fake and get nothing done. Also you cannot get transfered to billing you have to open a case which a third of the time they never get back to you about and your still not calling to canada you are calling to the states. Rogers customer service is at least canadian but they transfer you to a million different departments before you finally get somewhere. I only am happy being with rogers due to the lack of having to casll into customer service. Compared to when with bell where every month they take it upon themself to add things onto your account. Whats that you have 2 min of overages? well here we will just put on this 100 min pack for 7$ without your permission. Gah!

Where did this news come from? No one else is reporting it and it seems highly suspicious that if they were launching tomorrow that they wouldn’t have disclosed handsets/prices and plans yet.

I live in Ottawa and am interested to see how things play out before they make their way here. Currently I am with Telus and am happy with their customer survive ( talking to someone within 5 mind of calling, problems resolved right away) however I’m kinda ticked that even if I go buy an HSPA phone ( from them or elsewhere) I would need to start a new contract, alongside losing my unlimited data plan. However it’s moreso the unlimited data+ tethering that grabs my interest. Currently I am with Bell and every single month I am dissapointed with higher than expected bills, service that is inconsistant, bad customer service. Even last month they randomly changed my plan to a more expensive plan without even informing me for no reason whatsoever, I don’t download or play games or anything so it wasn’t an issue with bandwidth or anything. That being said, it is worth it to me to cancel my blackberry plan, and home Internet, and just use a convenient unlimited tehering plan so I can use my Macbook anywhere with high speed Internet. I believe unlimited data is definitely a step in the right direction. I also think they are able to provide unlimited calling nationwide because they have a VOIP system on their end handling their calls. Any thoughts on these points?

For all thos who say that the no contract option was always available, all promotional plans have a manditory 3 year subscription tied to them. The current plan I have would have cost me about 40$ more if it were not a promo and it was impossible to get without a plan so p*ss off
