Public Mobile has updated their website and has given a fresh new look… and also given us their rate plans, coverage map and the first mobile device they will launch!
From the beginning they’ve stated they’ll offer a flat rate $40 unlimited talk and text plan with no credit checks, no contracts and no surprises… and guess what? That’s exactly what they are bringing to the table when they launch.
In addition, they’ll be launching the ZTE C78. According to the specs this is a candy bar style device that has dimensions of 110×50x14mm and weighs in at 80 grams. This also has the basic needs such as Phonebook, MMS, Bluetooth, Camera (0.3 megapixels VGA Resolution), Speakerphone, Contacts, Calendar, Tip Calculator, games and alarm clock.
Public Mobile purchased G Band license and spent $53 million in the auction, however they will reach 19 million people in Ontario and Quebec. They state on their site that “We have big plans for our network that will run from Windsor all the way to Quebec. In late 2009, we’ll be up and running in Toronto and Montreal. And throughout 2010 we’ll be adding new cities to our network.
Good start Public!

How large is the calling or roaming area? For some reason areas are stuck with the Bell landline zones.
Southern Ontario should be a max of three roaming areas
Thanks

G Band is useless in the long run from my understanding…

It is not on the 1700/2100 AWS frequencies and won’t be useable for data!
Anyway, at 40$ as others have said i hope it includes CID/Voicemail/Access-fees and maybe even taxes!

No data is fine, as long as their is still a way to load applications on the phone?
Hopefully we can load games and stuff using Bluetooth or USB or something.

Doubtful. Public Mobile has made it clear from the beginning that they are going after the entry level market, which means entry level phones.
Still, a entry level phone at a reasonable rate plan will be a winner in this market.
