Oppo unveils thin, light R819 with 720p display and stock Android option

Oppo, a Chinese electronics manufacturer looking to expand into the smartphone world, has launched its thinnest, lightest handset to date today, the R819.

The 4.7-inch device has a 720p display, a 1.2Ghz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP Sony Exmor sensor, a 2MP front-facing camera and 16GB of internal storage.

Oppo has made a name for itself releasing high-quality devices under the expected retail costs of its competitors. The Find 5, the company’s first flagship, boasts a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 2GB of RAM, along with an 1080p display, but retails for under $500.

The R819, which is 7.3mm thin and 110 grams, retails for around $349 and will come with two ROMs, Oppo’s “Color ROM” which looks like Huawei’s take on Android, and stock Android 4.2.1.

There’s also a 2000mAh battery, dual SIM support and 850Mhz 3G on board.
