Apple announces iTunes U app for iPad and iPhone

Another big announcement at today’s Guggenheim Museum press conference is the release of iTunes U for iPhone and iPad. Like the textbook addition to iBooks, iTunes U is supposed to make it easier for students and teachers to interact. Specifically, teachers can sign up to curate their lectures, class notes and even videos from within the iTunes U ecosystem.

Once signed up for a course, students can download entire lectures, communicate with teachers and peers and answer homework questions from straight within the app. The tools to create, curate and edit every aspect of a course are made available to teachers, while students have access to a hub full of relevant course material and past lectures.

iTunes U has also expanded to include K-12 classes as well as universities. While no Canadian schools have signed up to take part in iTunes U just yet, we hope they will take up the next-generation educational reins sooner rather than later.
