Google appears to be testing out a small Play Store redesign.
Some users have reported seeing the new design, which appears to be still in development. The design first showed up a few months ago with limited adjustment, and is reportedly a part of a server-side test that’s only showing up for some people. However, it appears it has started going out to more users.
At first glance, it appears the redesign is just a colour scheme change. Most of the interface is white now. The green title bar and the category badges are also gone. Further, the category badges are smaller and take on a rounded look reminiscent of the Google Assistant app. The install button is longer too, taking up the width of the display.
Most of the card interface has been replaced with empty white space. The ‘What’s New’ section has also lost its green sheen too.
Overall, the design leaves a little to be desired. It seems that Google is adjusting the Play Store to be more in line with its other recent app redesigns, like Assistant and Google News. Since the redesign seems to be ongoing, hopefully the final version will look a little better.
Personally, I quite like the look of Google News. With just a few more tweaks, I think the Play Store redesign could look google enough to rival Google’s other apps.
