Bell and Netflix partner on Canadian comedy ‘SCTV’ reunion special

SCTV Reunion

Bell and Netflix have announced a partnership to make CTV the exclusive broadcast network of the upcoming reunion of Canadian sketch comedy series Second City Television.

The comedy special, which is currently untitled, will see past SCTV members Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Andrea Martin Joe Flaherty, Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis reunite under the direction of Academy Award-winner Martin Scorsese.

SCTV, which was filmed in Toronto and Edmonton, originally ran from 1976 to 1984 and went on to win two Emmy Awards.

The reunion special, meanwhile, is set to air sometime in 2019 on Netflix around the world, while it will only be available on CTV in Canada.

“SCTV is a Canadian television classic that catapulted the careers of some of the biggest names known in comedy,” said Randy Lennox, president of Bell Media, in a press statement. “We are honoured to partner with Netflix as the official Canadian broadcaster of the comedy special, and look forward to Scorsese’s genius homage to a show that has such enduring legacy.”

As well, the original SCTV cast members will take part in a panel conversation on May 13th at the Elgin Theatre. “An Afternoon With SCTV,” which will be taped before a live audience, will feature comedian Jimmy Kimmel moderating as the actors discuss the making of the hit series.
