Apple files patent for device with foldable display and body

Apple Logo

Apple has filed a patent for a foldable phone with a bendable display, according to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

According to the filing, the bendable phone is set to include an optically clear adhesive that’s flexible and can be bent. The device layer consists of memory alloy, or an amorphous metal that could feature openings that facilitate bending as well.

Apple is far from being the only company working on a bendable smartphone. For example, LTE recently released the Axon M which folds in the middle. Meanwhile, Samsung is also reportedly working on a foldable phone, which many expect to release sometime in 2018. Apple’s patent seems to be related to a device with a truly bendable display, while LTE’s offering attaches two displays together.

As always, it’s important to note that this is just a filing and that not all patents actually become commercial products.
