Video: Greyhound bus driver caught texting, playing games and taking pics of the sunrise while driving

The police are cracking down and handing out fines for those who are caught using their mobile phone while driving. It’s banned in most provinces and just this week the Vancouver Police Department tweeted they “issued 40 tickets in 2 hrs yesterday for texting or using cell phone while driving. Please use hands free devices!”. It’s all about safety and the fines are pretty hefty too.

This video is incredibly surprising. It shows a Greyhound bus driver at the wheel using his phone. Apparently the passenger who shot the video witnessed him playing games, using the camera and taking pics of the sunrise and texting while “gently swerving over the lines the entire time”.

“I recorded just a few minutes but I watched this for at least 10 minutes before getting my camera ready. Prior to that I was asleep so I don’t know how long or how often the driver was messing with his phone throughout the trip. I became very anxious a few times while on single-lane highway but I started the video only after we hit the 4-lane divided highway just south of Fort McMurray. In the time that I observed him he read txt messages, flipped through photos, flipped through the settings and configuration of his camera, and snapped a dozen or so pictures of the sunrise out the East window — gently swerving over the lines the entire time.”

Greyhound spokesperson Bonnie Bastian said they have a zero-tolerance policy and are currently doing an investigation on the incident.
