Shopify users can now run their business using just a mobile device

Ottawa-based e-commerce company Shopify has overhauled its iOS and Android apps, adding a significant amount of features and tools that were previously only present in the platform’s online version.

“We think the key component to this launch is that no computer is now needed to run a business on Shopify,” said Shopify chief marketing officer Craig Miller in a statement to MobileSyrup.

“We see the transition from computer to mobile as a growing trend in businesses especially amongst entrepreneurs.”

The first thing that users will now see when opening their app is the updated home page, where they’ll find a real-time view of their store’s performance through charts that show total sales and number of visitors for the day, week or month.

Underneath, there’s a feed of analytical insights based on the data — for example, how many of your referrals came from which social media — suggested tasks and notifications.

Additionally, users can now view full reports on the app, such as sales channel performance or financial results.

The updated app also lets users fulfill orders, update customer profiles and modify product descriptions all without leaving the mobile experience. Meanwhile, they can also use the built-in team communication tool ‘Timeline,’ which the company has added Slack-like push notifications for any ‘@’ mentions.

In addition to the new features, the app has also got a more minimal look and, states the company, a zippier performance — though it notes that it’ll only unveil the technology behind the app at next year’s partner and developer conference, Unite.

The app is available for free, and those who already have a version can upgrade immediately through Google Play or the App Store.
