CraveTV app now available on Xbox One

Starting today, Xbox One owners in Canada can download Crave TV to their eighth generation video game console.

Bell’s over-the-top video streaming platform is one of the ways Canadians can get access to HBO’s back catalogue of shows like The Wire. I haven’t had a chance to download the app on my Xbox One yet, though based screenshots the app appears to feature a clean and intuitive user interface.

There’s no word yet when the streaming platform will arrive on the PlayStation 4, Sony’s current console. Competitor Shomi has been available on both the Xbox One and PS4 since this past May. CraveTV customers can also watch the platform’s content through apps available on iOS, Android.

While it had somewhat of a difficult launch, Microsoft’s newest console has turned into an excellent option for Canadian cord cutters. With apps like Plex, Netflix and now CraveTV, as well as the ability to catch broadcast television channels with the help of a TV tuner and antenna, Canadians can watch a wealth of video content without subscribing to an expensive cable package.

Moreover, the console is set to become even better when Microsoft launches the Xbox One S in Canada later this summer. Announced at the company’s E3 2016 keynote this past June, the slimmer console is capable of outputting 4K and HDR video content.

CraveTV is currently available for $7.99. Canadians can try out the service through a one-month free trial.
