HTC says it’s not interested in merging with Asus

HTC One M9

Asus may have plans for HTC, but, for its part, the smartphone manufacturer says it has no interest in merging with one of its competitors, even if they’re from the same country.

“[HTC] has not made any contact with ASUS regarding this matter, and it will not consider a merger with ASUS,” says a statement the company posted on the website of the Taiwanese stock exchange.

For those that haven’t been following along, this all started when David Chang, Asus’s chief financial officer, told Reuters that his company had talked about making a go at HTC.

“Our chairman has chatted about the topic internally,” he said. “Still, the chances of an actual takeover are not big as Asustek is a company that has depended on organic growth.”

Asus later issued a clarification, saying it’s not actively looking into purchasing HTC. Still, that didn’t stop the price of HTC’s shares rising by 10 per cent in response to the news.

All is well in the tech world, in other words.
