The next Pokémon movie was teased, showing us a glimpse of a new character, Mimikyu and the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Featuring the Pokémon TCG in the actual show or movies is definitely a first, so this move might be quite different from what we’re used to.
The description reads: “Pokémon: Wild Card tells the exciting story of a Pokémon TCG player and his partner Mimikyu. When the time comes to put their cards on the table, will they have what it takes to achieve their goals?” This is a feature-length movie that might hit some theatres and is in partnership with Cloverworks. Cloverworks is responsible for anime like The Promise Neverland, Spy x Family 2, The Elusive Samurai, and Persona 5: The Animation.
This seems like an entirely different kind of Pokémon movie and is expected to launch next year, alongside the release of Pokémon Winds and Waves, and the claymation-style series hitting Disney+, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu.
And for those who haven’t seen the Gen 7 Pokémon, Mimikyu. The little guy is a ghost/fairy-type Pokémon that wears an old, ragged Pikachu costume, but underneath lies something terrifying. Its Pokédex entry reads, “Its actual appearance is unknown. A scholar who saw what was under its rags was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock.”
