OnePlus announces ColorOS beta, but Canada will have to wait

The beta is limited to India for the time being

OnePlus has now officially set everything in motion to make the switch away from OxygenOS, as the brand has launched a closed ColorOS beta program for the OnePlus 15 and 15R.

According to Android Authority, the closed beta is currently limited to the Indian variants of the 15 and 15R, so North American and European variants will be left out this time. This isn’t a complete surprise; Digital Trends noted that Last year’s OxygenOS 16 beta followed a similar pattern, with the beta limited to Indian devices before the stable release in other markets.

Additionally, the program has been capped at 300 testers per device. To become a tester, you have to have an active OnePlus Community account, sign an NDA, and be willing to participate in a Telegram group and interact with OnePlus’ software team. The application window is open for only two days, with the final day being today (August 7).

Now, OnePlus hasn’t confirmed the Android version under the hood of ColorOS, but Digital Trends noted it is most likely Android 17, as the company has reportedly been testing it internally on the OnePlus 15 since March.

This comes amid OnePlus officially pulling out of the North American and European markets, following months of swirling rumours about the company’s departure.
