Capcom has revealed more gameplay from Resident Evil Requiem.
In the Resident Evil Showcase on Thursday, the developer offered an extensive look at survival horror game, including the differences between its two protagonists. As confirmed at The Game Awards last month, fan-favourite hero Leon S. Kennedy is the co-lead of the game alongside Grace, a new character who’s the daughter of Alyssa from Resident Evil Outbreak.
As Grace, players will be thrown into “closed spaces with scarce ammo and terrifying enemies.” As such, Capcom teased that you’ll have to choose when to fight and when to run away. There’s also a new crafting system that involves you siphoning the blood of defeated enemies, so you’ll have to consider that as well. Interestingly, though, the gameplay footage also teased that there are evolved zombies that have more human-like characteristics and even have limited speech, which should add to the horror.
Leon, meanwhile, will engage in “overwhelmingly tense combat” that builds on the action from Resident Evil 4. To fight zombies, he wields guns and a hatchet that he’ll have to sharpen, as well as weapons that enemies drop. This includes a chainsaw, allowing him to better turn the tables on hordes.
Story-wise, Capcom also teased something called “Elpis” that Grace and Leon will have to investigate. The developer notes that this is tied to the death of Grace’s mother and, therefore, will be a key part of the narrative.
To welcome in more players, Requiem will also feature first and third-person options. On top of that, a Casual difficulty mode with aim assist will be available if you so choose. As with older RE games, the standard difficulty options will require you to use limited ink ribbon items to save.
Other parts of the showcase included Nvidia talking about the PC performance of the game, a look at Leon’s car with Porsche and confirmation that a 30th anniversary Resident Evil concert is coming to Japan, Europe and North America. Specific cities and dates for the concert weren’t mentioned, so it remains to be seen whether it will come to Canada.
Interestingly, a Requiem demo was not shadow dropped during the showcase, which some speculated based on previous RE entries. That said, we don’t have to wait long for the full game, as it launches on February 27, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
