Even 10GB of bonus data can’t make Fido wireless plans worth buying

The bonus data makes Fido's plans better, but they're still not as good as what the company offered a month ago

Fido rolled out new 10GB data bonuses on several plans in a fresh effort to entice customers. Unfortunately, I’m not sure 10GB goes far enough.

The Rogers flanker brand now offers the following plans:

  • $40/10GB + 10GB bonus data, 500 international texts
  • $45/40GB + 10GB bonus data, 500 international texts
  • $50/60GB + 10GB bonus data, 1,000 international texts

All of Fido’s plans include Canada-wide calling and texting and 4G LTE data with speeds capped at up to 150Mbps. Moreover, Fido charges extra for hotspot access and an $80 connection fee, though it waives this for online purchases. Moreover, all plans include a $10 discount for using automatic payments.

Fido plans with bonus data as of August 7, 2025.

Aside from the 10GB bonus, Fido’s plans remain the same as when the company updated things about a month ago. Prior to the July 8 plan changes, Fido offered slightly better deals like $45/60GB and $55/80GB plans. So, even with the bonus data, Fido’s current plans are still worse deals than before.

And looking beyond Fido, the company’s plans really don’t hold up. Freedom Mobile, the current north star for wireless plans with great value, has options like the $39/60GB Canada/U.S./Mexico 5G plan. Cheaper, way more data, and built-in North American roaming makes it tough to beat.

There are also great options from Telus-owned Public Mobile, like $40/60GB Canada/U.S./Mexico 5G. And looking at Fido’s more direct competitors, Telus’ Koodo and Bell’s Virgin Plus, at the time of writing, they had the same prices (e.g. $40/10GB, $50/60GB) but no bonus data. However, there are other benefits — for example, Koodo’s plans now have 5G data, and Virgin includes unlimited calling to several countries, including the U.S., and hotspot capabilities at no extra charge.

All this is to say, there aren’t many reasons to go for Fido’s plans over the others, even with the bonus data. If you’re in the market for a new plan, I’d recommend trying MobileSyrup’s plan search tool to find the best deal for you.
