Square Enix has announced Life is Strange: Reunion, the conclusion to Max and Chloe’s story.
As the title suggests, the game focuses on the reunion between the fan-favourite characters, who were last seen together in the Farewell DLC of 2017’s Beyond the Storm. Developed once again by Deck Nine Games, Reunion sees Max and Chloe race to save Caledon University, which was introduced in 2024’s Double Exposure, from a raging inferno. The studio revealed more in stream hosted by actresses Hannah Telle (Max) and Rhianna DeVries (Chloe).
The existence of the game comes after some fans were upset over how Double Exposure handled the original Life is Strange‘s diverging endings in which Max mad to make the difficult choice of either saving Chloe or their hometown, Arcadia Bay. Even if you opted for the former, Double Exposure revealed that Max and Chloe went their separate ways, leading to some disappointment.
Now, Deck Nine says it aims to honour both Life is Strange endings with Reunion. As the developer notes, Max’s actions in Double Exposure to prevent the murder of her friend Safi actually merged alternate timelines — one where Chloe lived, and one where she died. Therefore, Chloe is now haunted by visions of what happens in both endings, while Max will still feel the impact of the one you chose, and different dialogue options will play out depending on which ending you went with. Players will also get to rebuild Max and Chloe’s relationship and ultimately decide whether they’re close friends or romantic partners.
Reunion will also let you play as both characters in the same game, a first for the series. As Max, you’ll be able to use her signature time rewind abilities, allowing you to undo and redo recent decisions and solve four-dimensional puzzles. Chloe, meanwhile, has her Backtalk ability (returning from Beyond the Storm) which lets her use her quick wits to get out of sticky situations.
We also don’t have to wait long to play the game. Life is Strange: Reunion will launch on March 26 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
