Freedom ends Boxing Week promos, removes $9 BYOP discount

While Freedom's Boxing Week deals are gone, it's still got some of the best wireless pricing on the market

Freedom 5G unlimited data

If you haven’t taken advantage of Boxing Week deals, well, you’ve unfortunately missed your chance. One of the last carriers still offering deals, Freedom Mobile, has now ended its Boxing Week offers.

During the promotional period, Freedom was offering extra data on several plans as well as a $9/mo discount for customers who brought their own phone. Those offers are now gone, with Freedom listing the following plans:

  • $34/10GB 5G CAN/US/MEX (unchanged).
  • $39/60GB 5G CAN/US/MEX (previously $39/70GB).
  • $49/80GB 5G CAN/US/MEX (previously $40/100GB).
  • $59/100GB 5G CAN/US/MEX (previously $50/150GB).
  • $69/200GB 5G CAN/US/MEX (previously $60/200GB).
  • $79/250GB 5G CAN/US/MEX (previously $70/250GB).

While the plan prices certainly aren’t as good as they were during Boxing Week, the prices have returned to what Freedom offered before the sale.

Moreover, Freedom’s prices remain well ahead of most of the competition. For example, to get a 60GB data plan from one of the Big Three will run you about $70/mo, and you won’t even get CAN/US/MEX usage.

The Big Three flanker brands, on the other hand, charge around $55/mo for a 60GB plan, but again you end up paying more for less with no CAN/US/MEX roaming and, with some providers like Fido, you don’t even get 5G data.

At the time of writing, I could only find a couple of carriers offering anything close to (or better than) Freedom’s plans. There’s Fizz, also owned by Freedom’s parent company Quebecor, which has a $40/70GB 5G CAN/US. plan. And there’s Telus-owned Public Mobile, which at the time of writing still had $40/100GB and $50/150GB 5G CAN/US/MEX plans. However, Public has been closely matching Freedom’s offers throughout the holiday sale period, so I expect Public will change its plans very soon.

All that said, Freedom’s deals are gone but it’s still got some of the best value in the wireless space. In other words, if you missed out on Boxing Week deals but still need a new plan, Freedom is probably still your best bet.
