Ford confirms it is sticking with Apple CarPlay

CarPlay isn't going anywhere for the blue oval

Ford’s chief financial officer, Sherry House, has confirmed that Apple CarPlay will remain available in its vehicles.

According to iPhone in Canada, House said that many Ford drivers enjoy CarPlay, and that Ford reportedly wants to preserve the experience as new vehicles are rolled out. Ford confirms this, as some automakers are moving away from CarPlay toward other smartphone-style interfaces.

Interestingly enough, Ford’s biggest rival, General Motors, is already moving away from both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its future electric vehicles, opting instead to use its own software for both infotainment and navigation.

House’s comments also implied that Ford is planning to introduce additional technology in the coming years, with the auto manufacturer planning to bring Google Gemini to its vehicles in 2026, when it becomes available.

Apple CarPlay has been a central part of Ford’s infotainment for a while now, with the feature available on models equipped with various versions of Ford’s SYNC infotainment software. In fact, we used Apple CarPlay when both former head of creative Brad Bennett and editor in chief Jon Lamont had the (insanely huge) Ford Expedition as a loaner to test the vehicle’s BlueCruise system.

As iPhone in Canada points out, many drivers (like myself) still prefer familiar smartphone-based interfaces in a vehicle’s infotainment, so this move could be popular with consumers in an auto industry undergoing plenty of changes as companies battle a fluctuating economy and U.S. tariffs.
