Microsoft has removed the ability to use its Windows Hello facial recognition feature in dark rooms.
Interestingly, the tech giant quietly made the change in April, as noticed by Windows Central. According to Microsoft, a security flaw related to Windows Hello spoofing resulted in the removal of the facial recognition in the dark functionality. Now, “Windows Hello facial recognition requires color cameras to see a visible face when signing in,” says Microsoft.
It’s unclear if and when this functionality may return. It should be noted that online users have found that you can disable your webcam in Windows Device Manager to get Windows Hello to return to IR sensor-only authentication. However, this means you won’t be able to use the camera for video calls. In other words, it would only be for authentication.
