LG has announced its new display technology called Hybrid Tandem OLED. This new tech offers 15 per cent lower power consumption than the regular OLED panels.
The company is making it more power efficient by using blue phosphorescent OLED technology, as blue LEDs emit light at a higher frequency than blue and green and require more power. LG’s display structure will use the typical fluorescent layer, which should provide accurate blues, avoid issues like burn-in, and then use the phosphorescent layer to help conserve energy.

The two layers together should consume 15 per cent less power, which could equate to 30 more minutes of screen-on time.
LG Display is already in the commercialization stage of this technology and will demonstrate it on smartphone—and tablet-sized panels at SID Display Week on May 11.
