Play chess with AI-generated pieces from Google

I made a ninja set ?

Google has launched a new chess website, which uses custom pieces created by generative AI. GenChess uses Imagen 3 to let users create chess pieces by typing a short description. You can generate pieces for yourself and your opponent, and you can make them look creative, or they can have a classic aesthetic.

There are three difficulty settings and two different time controls; however, you’re unable to see the pieces that have been captured, and you can’t look at past moves. The game defaults from an isometric view, allowing you to see all the chess pieces, but you can also change it to a top-down view with the game’s settings.

Google is also working on creating a chess bot using Gemini. In this version of the game, you type your moves, and Gemini updates the chessboard as the game continues. This feature will be available in December for Gemini Advanced subscribers.

The Mountain View, California-based company has launched this app alongside the Chess World Championship, which features reigning champ Ding Liren facing 18-year-old Gukesh Dommaraju. Dommaraju just won game three against Liren. Game four starts Friday, November 29th, at 4:00 a.m. ET/1:00 a.m. PT.
