BlackBerry chief operating officer Marty Beard has announced he will be departing the company effective December 1st.
In a statement to Reuters, BlackBerry said Beard is leaving the company “to help family members deal with health issues.”
BlackBerry hired Beard on as COO in 2014. Beard was seen as an integral part of the company’s shift from a hardware-focused business to one focused on software and security. The executive was also tasked with leading the com “Enterprise of Things” vision. Beard was also responsible for marketing, strategic and application partnerships and developer outreach.
When asked about the future of BlackBerry in a recent interview with MobileSyrup, Beard stated, “It’s pretty amazing that we are here right now with money in the bank and making money but we have got a long way to go.”
There is no word yet from BlackBerry on who will replace Beard.
