Action Launcher 3.5 adds to its feature roster with Quickbar

One of Android’s most endearing features continues to be its ability to set custom launchers, which extend functionality and potentially enhance aesthetic.

To wit, one of the most interesting and innovative launchers released in the past year has been Action Launcher 3. Developed by Chris Lacy, the man behind popular projects Tweet Lanes (now discontinued) and Link Bubble, Action Launcher has slowly become of the most popular custom launchers out there.

With Action Launcher 3, Lacy took the existing Android Lollipop launcher, with its elegant simplicity, and added a left-side sliding menu for quick app access. Existing features like Covers and Shutters are more optional than standout, but with version 3.5 Lacy has added Quickbar, a way to add icons, shortcuts, apps and folders to the Google search bar without impeding on the homescreen’s existing layout.

As with all Action Launcher features, the simplicity of Quickbar belies a very deep UX, with custom icons and settings that you didn’t even know you wanted.

Of course, Quickbar is a premium feature, and in Canada the premium Action Launcher costs around $6 as an in-app purchase.
