Google-owned Nest is one step closer to controlling your home.
While the company started off making your thermostat smart and cool looking, Nest is slowly transforming itself to be the central hub for your home. At CES, Nest announced 15 new partners for its “Works with Nest” developer program, including LG, Withings, Lutron, Insteon, Whirlpool, UniKey, August Smart Lock, Automatic and Philips Hue.
In total, there are currently over 5,000 developers working to integrate Nest into its products, and in the coming months we’ll see a number of them come to life. For example, LG appliances will go into energy saving mode when you depart your home, while August Smart Lock will automatically adjust the temperature when you lock or unlock your front door.
Matt Rogers, Nest’s founder and VP of Engineering, stated, “Things that magically happen around your house aren’t just sci-fi anymore. They’re real-life Works with Nest connections. And they’re already being used by 1 in 10 Nest customers, in 90 countries, just 6 months after launching.”
