The latest in a series of BlackBerry 10.2 leaks points to an iterative update that will bring some relief to many users frustrated with having to switch between the Hub and a particular app to reply to something. Now, when a user receives a notification, it appears as a toast (much like in Windows Phone) at the top of the screen, which can be pulled down to reveal an input box for replying. This will allow users to reply to texts, BBMs and Tweets without entering the Hub or the app itself.
Another feature of BlackBerry 10.2 is Wi-Fi Direct, something that Android users have been taking advantage of for some time. Perhaps the most well-known feature is S Beam on the Galaxy S line, which allows users to pair two phones using NFC and then transfer data using high-speed WiFi rather than the slower Bluetooth protocol.
Evernote also appears to have been working with BlackBerry to release a native app in BB 10.2. The company’s API was utilized extensively in the first BlackBerry 10 release through the Reminders app, but a native application such as what is available on iOS or Android will go a long way towards improving the somewhat lacklustre app ecosystem.
We’ll know more about BlackBerry 10.2, such as its release date, later this summer, likely around the time BlackBerry releases BBM for iOS and Android.
