Samsung has announced plans to bring the Galaxy S5 smartphone and Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit to Canada on April 11th.

Though pricing and carrier specifics have not yet been revealed, the company said that “the device will retail for $229 on select plans” at its Samsung Experiences Stores in Vancouver and Edmonton, hinting more broadly at a similar 2-year pricing plan. The press release also says it will “be offered across multiple carriers,” which we know to be Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido, Virgin Mobile, Koodo, MTS, Eastlink, SaskTel, Videotron and Wind Mobile.

The company claims that the Galaxy S5 will be available in Charcoal Black and Shimmery White, while the Gear 2 will come in a variety of shades, from the same Charcoal Black to Wild Orange, Gold Brown and Mocha Gray. The Gear Fit will be available in just black.

If you’ll recall, the Galaxy S5 is an evolutionary product, similar in styling to the two previous S devices. It has a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with microSD card, a 16MP rear camera, a 2800mAh removable battery, IP67 dust and water resistance, a fingerprint scanner and a heart rate sensor.

We’ll have some time with all the new Samsung products in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more details.

Update: We’ve received word that Rogers will be releasing the Samsung Gear, Gear 2 Neo and the Gear Fit. The prices: Gear 2 Neo, only available with Rogers, for $219.99; Gear Fit for $219.99; and Gear 2 for $329.99.

In addition, Rogers has revealed that they will make the GS5 available on April 11th for 249.99 “on select two-year term agreements.” The carrier also noted that anyone who reserves will receive a $50 credit on a virtual Rogers Prepaid MasterCard in their suretap wallet, plus those enrolled in the Rogers First Rewards loyalty program when they reserve will receive 2,000 bonus points.

Update #2: TELUS informed us that they will make the GALAXY Gear 2 and Gear Fit available on April 11th.

Update #3: Videotron has gone live with pre-orders and have announced the 2-year pricing is $229.95 with a $69.95 monthly plan. More here at Videotron.

I do like how they finally got rid of the menu key for the multitask key. Not interested in the GS5, however, looking forward to seeing what Sammy does with the Note 4 this year.

Stop with the Anti-Harper junk, every thread you reply to same Anti-Harper stuff. If that Liberal waste ever gets elected say hello to more taxes. I have a Note 3, Gear, and Note 12.2 Pro … What Canadian device do you recommend. Nothing is built in Canada. Is US better nope Motorola (Lenovo) built in China, Blackberry heaven forbids built in China.

    • barrist

To be fair, politics aside, Samsung is crap.

    • Max Fireman

Crap? Why? Because it’s dominating the android market? Come on pal. If you don’t like Samsung, don’t hate. I have an LG btw.

    • barrist

Because every Samsung phone I’ve ever had or tried has felt like crappy plastic in my hand? And the UI of Touchwhiz is horrible? and their cartoonish AMOLED screens look plain bad? I donno, maybe one of those reasons pal.

    • southerndinner

If TW was as bad as you’re crying about, it wouldn’t be the most popular Android skin in the world by a *wide* margin.

    • Yeria

While I don’t like Samsung devices either, all of the points you’ve listed are subjective.

Maybe it is crappy to you, but that doesn’t make it a fact.

    • sky417

And you bought Samsung phone because…?

    • goolger

you mad? conservatives are going to lose in 2015

  • HiKsFiles

How does the heart rate monitor gets to actually “read” the heart rate ??

    • Raphael Del Castillo

I think it measures the pulses in the veins

    • HiKsFiles

That’s most certainly the case. What I want to know is how it does so while being in my pocket. I can’t imagine strapping a GS5 to my chest (neck or wrist for that matter) like I do with my Polar band to read the heart rate…

    • barrist

It just reads your heart rate when you put your finger on the sensor on the back…. ie another useless Samsung “feature” that nobody asked for.

    • Ron

The pulse reader on the phone is a waste of money, but if the one in the Gear Fit works, I’ll be buying one. I do endurance training, and it is helpful to look back on heartrate throughout a workout. My present heartrate monitor straps across my chest, and uses electrical impulses to measure my pulse. It works well, but is a pain. A reliable, wrist mounted (probably optical) HRM would be great.

    • crocop24

You place your finger on the back under the camera. It does not measure while in your pocket.

    • HiKsFiles

Oh, I see now… pretty useless indeed! lol

    • Aditya Sinha

Why would you even want it to measure the heart rate while it’s in your pocket?!

    • sicsicpuppy

      Samsung voodoo magic

  • stevedion

Must resist, i’m a sucker for Samsung S line phones, only to be disappointed by bugs, lag, heat, bad battery life…

  • Bri Bru

What’s up with the rage lol? Does this affect you in any way? All I can see is that you have more option on your purchase.

  • KiwiBri

Kia isnt crap. . I’ve had more issues with Mazda and “domestic” models like Ford.
And lets try to leave politics out of Mobilesyrup please

  • Garrett Cooper

I was excited for April, HTC and Samsung let me down. Renewed with Bell and ordered a Nexus 5 last night lol.

    • Derek S

I have an S4, but if I was to buy new right now, it would definitely be a Nexus 5.

    • Garrett Cooper

My Sony ZL is good but I miss the Nexus experience. I think the only phone out right now I’d of considered is the G2 due to battery life. Makes me wish I’d of just order the Nexus 5 when it came out opposed to waiting, oh well. Can’t wait for it to be delivered!

    • Derek S

I’m on Cyanogen 11 on my S4 now. I got sick of all the extra crap Samsung adds on. Much nicer experience. I also got an extended battery for it. Given, it’s one of those double-capacity/double-the-size batteries, but I love the extra life.

    • Garrett Cooper

I ran some custom roms and an extended battery on my old S2 but that thing had some issues of it’s own that were incredibly frustrating which has kept me away from Samsung since. My buddy had the same phone with the same issue, although his seemed to go away. I used to mod all my phones back to windows 5.x, I just prefer not having to deal with that anymore on the Nexus platform. Options are good to have though.

    • eszklar

Flash your ZL with CyanogenMOD then.

    • Garrett Cooper

I could but I was due for an upgrade anyway, I’d rather not have to deal with flashing roms if I don’t have to.

    • eszklar

Up to you in the end of course. I love flashing up ROMS on Nexus and non-Nexus devices especially on older gear that has been abandoned by the Manufacturer. Just got a Galaxy Gear today for $100 – looking forwards to installing NullROM on it.

    • Garrett Cooper

I used to be like that, I’d flash a new one every couple days. I just don’t have the time for it and like having the stability and consistency. But as you said, in the end it’s our decision. XDA is a beautiful place.

  • Hilman in Edmonton

Sorry Sammy, after seeing the Moto 360 smart watch, your design and function is now obsolete. Android Wear>>>>>>>>>>Tizen

  • Shaggyskunk

The Note 2 – Blows the S5 out of the water… Anyone who has a S2 or possibly an S3 would be motivated to get the S5…. But that’s about it.
I’ll be more interested to see what the Note 4 brings to the table.
    TThe Fit… $219…haha ha

    • Dimitri

Note 2 has lower specs then the S5. Note series is a phablet line. Also the Note 2 just because it has a bigger battery & S-Pen, it still has lower camera, lower resolution, does not have Water, Dust resistant, its not 432 ppi, the SD card slot on the note 2 does not go up to 128GB, Note 2 does not have LTE Cat, does not have USB 3.0, & does not have Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Pedometer, Compass, Hall, Fingerprint ID, Gesture, Barometer, Step detector, Step counter, IR, 4K recording, 2.1 front camera

The S5 has more power / features then the Note 2. I would compare it to the Note 3 but not Note 2. Note 2 was released almost 2 years ago.

  • Dimitri

Very nice!! #8 in spot for it.

  • Dimitri

  • Yeria

Thanks Samsung, for making my decision to buy Nexus 5 instead to look like a work of a genius. Next up, Moto 360. Screw Galaxy Gear.

  • Jane Parker

We are pretty sure samsung will also come up with S5 Neo soon…. It will be high end device with no much difference in price with S5.

  • John

I love Samsung , cuz it’s made in Korea ( not in china ) , even apple is china too :]]
