Bell Samsung Galaxy Nexus dropping to $59.99 on 3-year for the Best Buy Boxing Day sale

The Boxing Day deals will be coming in full force now… kicking off the celebrations is Best Buy Canada with some very notable devices – all on 3-year contracts. First, the Bell Galaxy Nexus was released on December 8th and will see its first huge price drop on December 26th to a low $59.99, saving 100 bucks. Definitely something to think about as it’s currently one of the best Android devices on the market. Other high-end smartphones to get cut to $0 are the BlackBerry Bold 9900, TELUS Samsung Galaxy SII X, Rogers Samsung Galaxy SII LTE and the Bell and Virgin Samsung Galaxy SII. All very solid devices that are worth considering. The sales start on December 26th at 6:00am.

  5. It really is disgusting that you have to pay anything when you’re willing to commit to a 3 freaking year term. Although 59.99 isn’t a lot, it shouldn’t be there at all and 3 year terms should be banned period. I think the purchase of mlse recently prooves that together Rogers and Bell are a monopoly and at the very least in collusion.

  7. This should be for new and existing users. This offer is only if you switch from another carrier not if you are renewing your contract. That sucks!!!

  8. @Domingo, so basically no matter what the phone (retail) price is, you don’t want to pay anything for it on 3yr contract. My my, don’t we feel entitled!
The carrier is giving you a discount on the price, not the phone for free with a contract. There are plenty other phones which are free right now, and surely enough in a few months this one will be free on a 3yr.
You want to have it right now? It’s called the early adopter’s price. The alternative is easy – buy it full price, or buy it used later on without locking yourself in a contract.

In the States, as many like to compare to, where they only have 2 yr contracts, the phone is 300$. So it’s not like you’re getting a better deal there, necessarily.

Everybody likes free stuff I know, but just cause it’s Xmas doesn’t mean you can have it.

    • That’s a mostly valid point, zar, but you “save” $360 in the States:
      * Canada: $50 x 36 = $1800
      * USA: $60 x 24 = $1440

Let’s compare the plans, since they’re quite different:
      * Bell: 150 minutes, unlimited Bell-to-Bell, 18h nights and weekends, SMS, MMS, CID, VM, 100 MB, local calling only
      * Verizon: 450 minutes, unlimited Verizon-to-Verizon, 21h nights and weekends, NO SMS or MMS, CID, VM, 300 MB, USA-wide calling

Bell gives you unlimited SMS and MMS and 18h, while Verizon gives you more minutes and Internet plus a bigger voice mail box and no long distance charges when calling to and from USA.

Overall, the plans in Ontario may change when WIND grows throughout the province, kind of like Vidéotron in Québec. But for now, i’d be happier with Verizon’s plan. SMS and MMS are optional, and, frankly, they’re quite outdated.

    • Entitled? maybe you need to submit yourself for drug testing, Most of us are paying an obscene amount for a monthly plan. On top of that we commit to them for 3 years. THEY are the people that behave like they’re entitled and they do so because the government protects them from REAL competition.

  9. Can you please sum up the deals for Boxing Day? Some people would rather get the LG Optimus Chic for $55, or the HTC Wildfire S for $150 (put that on a SuperTab and they give you a $125 bonus gift card). Not everyone wants those long three-year contracts! :O

  10. *sigh* I’ll still hold off for the Nexus with Telus in January,, no one else in MB has a decent plan – 5GB of data for 50 bux,, i may not use all that, but it also has unlimited local calling & text

if i travel, the nexus should be unlocked and I’ll get pay as you go with the local guy..

  13. @domingo, those savings you were talking about are still services you’re being provided for one year of time. My point is not how companies rip you off for voice and data, my point was about how just because you’re going on a 3 year contract does not entitle you any phone for free.

Yes, let’s change the way contracts work in terms cancellation or base plan, but don’t tell me 3yr discounts are a rip off. (though I do agree about 1yr and 2yr contracts)

  15. @Domingo and @Alex Perrier are you guys retarded? You guys don’t get it if you a- you want free, $650 phones and b- are comparing Canada to the USA. Do you not realize that we are the 2nd largest country on the planet, with the least amount of wireless subscribers? ATT has in the state of NEW YORK, what Rogers has in the entire COUNTRY. That makes for a huge price difference. Zar made a good point, you are not entitled to anything free, you are also not forced to signing a contract, if you want the phone for free, wait until summer time, once it goes down. You want it now? Pay up. Do you complain about having to pay for your electricity when there is only ONE company supplying it to your home? of course not.

    • Proft levels and studies of Canadian wireless market show that prices are high due to poor competitive landscape. Also USA national carriers have the same high costs issue you claim the Canadian ones have.

    • Elny, First of all douche bag, just as well that you show your smart mouth from behind the safety of your keyboard. Speak like that to anybody on the street and you’ll be getting a smack in the teeth. If you want to speak to the my point then do it, if you want to be a pussy coward and name call the go find the nearest public bathroom and start handing out oral as you’re nothing but a receptical. Back to the topic. To be charging ANYTHING more than $50 is a complete rippoff. Your comparisons are rediculous and I’d suspect self serving if we actually knew who you are and who you represent. Because no half way inteligent consumer would think any different than I do in this situation.

  17. I just wanted to know if these deals can only be obtained with a minimum 50$ a month plan.
In particular I’m interested in getting Telus’ Samsung Galaxy SII X. (I wanna get a 45$ plan with them)

  18. @Zar and @ELNY.
3yr plans are a complete rip-off. In the US, there is no such plan – 2yr is max. Even that’s a long time to be stuck in a contract where technology changes by the month.
Last I read, Bell, Telus, and Rogers are each reaping billions in PROFIT each year off the backs of their customers. If someone is willing to commit to three years of overpriced voice and data services with any of these three, the phone should be supplied $0. I’m all for capitalism and making good profits, but these companies are filthy rich… how much is enough already?? The Can. govt needs to allow more competition and let the prices come down… the sooner the better!!

  21. “3yr plans are a complete rip-off. In the US, there is no such plan – 2yr is max.”

In the US, they are paying more upfront $ for their device.

eg. US 2 year and $300 for device.. CAN is 3 year contract and $150 for device (or zero if you go to Best Buy it seems).

Obviously they are making their money off the data plans and why we are being locked in for 3 years.

  24. What can we do with those companies, and the collusion / lobbies ?

    Nothing.

As long as there won’t be any game changer allowed in the market, customers are screwed.

The only way is to go with the law. I’m writing from France, where the prices of SMS were at 0,15cts of euro (0,22CAN$ a SMS), during YEARS (1997 to 2005). As soon as it has been proven that french operators were exchanging intel on the market, thereby, screwing an entire nation, they were condemned to a record forefeit of more than 500 million euros (750M CAN$). Since then, the market went hyper competitive. My dad pays 50 euro a month, for Internet access (no limit, High speed), TV, Home and mobile phone + 3G key.

We need to ask for an investigation, to prove wether or not those companies are colliding. (Seriously : who would be stupid enough to think they are not ?)

60% of canadians can’t afford mobile phones subscriptions. 3years contracts are a total pain… We are losing a HUGE economic opportunity here, just because of 3 companies. Do you really believe this should be legal ?
