Huawei U2801 released by Mobilicity for $50

It’s no HTC Amaze, nor the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but the Huawei U2801 made its Canadian appearance on WIND last week for $65 and we thought that was cheap. Mobilicity has just released this very entry level device a low $49.99 outright price. Good for those just wanting to talk and text, especially with their holiday plans. The Huawei U2801, looks circa 1999 and has a small 1.8-inch display, barely has a camera (VGA), but weighs only 92 grams.

    • Yeah, really, and the price doesn’t really reflect it. :S

  3. Way to undercut price! i’m not sure if this will sell well, as the keys are fairly small compared to the LG Wink. But unlike the Wink, the U2801 is a bar phone. There’s no slider keypad, so no moving parts. What do you people prefer: the Huawei U2801 or the LG Wink?

Actually, while we’re at it, who prefers the Samsung C414? They cost $50 at Mobilicity (Walmart), Telus and WIND. Telus includes a $20 credit, while Mobilicity offers a free month of the $25 talk and text plans. There’s so many deals around Christmas.

  4. While for most of us, this phone is pretty much subpar in our standards, there are many people, people who I know who don’t need much more than this like my parents and grandparents who only want to use their phones to talk and that’s about it.

Pair this with the Mobilicity $25 plan, it’s actually a really great deal!

  5. POSTED from the “WIND says they’ll launch in Halifax, Winnipeg and Regina next year” thread:

    Mobilicity’s new theme song:
    Na Na Na Na
    Na Na Na Na
    Hey Hey Hey
    Good-Bye!

I am a BIG Mobilicity fan, but WIND actually announcing expansion plans is good PR. If you are a new customer, looking to try any of the Little Three, which would you pick? The company that is making expansion plans and has marketing commercials, or well, the other two?
Mobilicity, hold on to the rope and keep up with the rest of the class!
    Good job WIND!

Now, Mobilicity, if this is a game of poker vs. WIND, your cards are facing the wrong way!

Mobilicity, tell us what your expansion plans or ANY other reasons why I should continue to stay with you!
A Huawei phone announcement isn’t an announcement! It’s a death certificate!

    • Good for wind if they expand. However, I don’t even see why Mobilicity customers have anything to worry about, because they rarely need to go outside their cities anyways (if they do, the roaming fees aren’t really that expensive anyways). Bascially, expansions don’t really matter for the average customer. The average person in Edmonton doesn’t give 2 cents about Wind expanding in London, nor do they care about Mobilicity NOT expanding to London.

Besides, it’s not like Mobilicity customers have anything to lose, since there’s no strings attached to their current plans. Mobi customers are saving $$$ this very moment though. If they want extra coverage, they can easily switch to Wind.

It’s not a zero-sum game for the new entrants.

    • You do have coverage because Mobilicity is nation wide. The thing is you have 5 major cities with unlimited and pay as you go for the rest. They wont go to small cities yet because do the cost and would you get a return with 3 other companies in there at this time of life where a tower can cost over $250,000. nope

Rome wasnt built in a day!!!!!!!!

  10. Come on, you have to give Mobilicity SOME credit. Cell phones didn’t have colour displays or VGA cameras in 1999.

Hell, the thought of a camera in a cell phone was absurd in 1999!

  11. In December 2011, Bloomberg reported that The U.S. is invoking Cold War-era national-security powers to force telecommunication companies including AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. to divulge confidential information about their networks in a hunt for Chinese cyber-spying. The action represents a concern that China and other countries may be using their growing export sectors to develop built-in spying capabilities in U.S. networks. The U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence said it would investigate potential security threats posed by some foreign companies, and mentioned Huawei specifically. A spokesman for Huawei said that the company conducts its businesses according to normal business practices and actually welcomed the investigation
