Rogers Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Video demo

Today we caught up with Neil Dutton and Peter Farmer of the Marketing team over at Sony Ericcson. They gave me a quick demo of the upcoming Rogers Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10. First and foremost the device does not even compare to anything Sony Ericsson has put out in the past. This is a new brand new beginning for them and the X10 clearly shows it.

This will come with Android OS 1.6 and has a beautiful 4-inch screen WVGA touchscreen that’s scratch-resistant (resolution is 480×854). You’ll see in the video the movies take up the entire screen with no wasted space. Overall the X10 weighs 135 grams and has an elegant look/feel to it. If comparing to other Android devices even the iPhone, this is one you should consider as the design is a massive shift to a better overall experence. This will be available in Black and also Rogers will be releasing a White model at release (sometime in Q2).

It comes with everything you could want: 8.1-megapixel camera with auto-focus, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack and the new “Mediascape”, “Timescape” and an “infinite” button” that brings everything in your world together.

Check out the video here (still being processed by YouTube so it may be a bit pixelated)

  1. The interface is beautiful but doesn’t seem all that useful. I definitely need to see one of these first hand though.

  2. I dunno.. agree with Dylan, need to see it first-hand. Android needs a game changer UI. HTC Sense isn’t bad but is looking dated already.

  4. Nice phone but the SE guy showing it off should do his homework.. or let his boss in the background do the presentation. It was annoying to watch this and know more about the phone than this guy did.
And timescape still seems choppy… but that may not be a huge deal.
I just wonder if Rogers is guna price this under the iPhone?..

  5. Nice phone, but unless it really impresses me when I actually have it in my hands, I think that I’m still leaning more towards the Nexus One. The X10 looks a bit to much like a psp to me.

  6. It looks awesome and fast!
I’ll get it by Rogers too, just hope that price is “right”. Timescape seems to totally involve the whole phone and maps your photos and contacts and categorize.
    Feels like magic to me.

  7. No call button? The whole purpose of a phone is to make calls, with out the call button means a few extra steps, which will get annoying over time. Otherwise a great looking phone.

  11. “game changer”?
Why someone will buy this phone over the Nexus One?

(Except the current availability of the N1 in Canada and except the SonyFanBoys)

  12. @Mathieu

I completely agree, the N1 is THE Android phone to own right now. Too bad it isn’t available in Canada.

  13. Game changer? It’s disappointing to hear people use these terms indiscriminately. The h/w is appealing, but the UI doesn’t appear very useful to me. Sony Ericsson seem to interested in differentiation and in the process waste time/money/effort on things that most users won’t appreciate. The display looks nice, but the real question is support. Sony has a real problem with dropping support of the devices soon after they launch. It’s hard to trust a company like that. I have been a long time Sony consumer, and at this point in order to win me back they have to show that they are committed to upgrades etc. As much as I think this is a nice device I’d rather pick up the N1 or HTC Supersonic when it’s released. Game changer this is certainly not.

  14. The Timescape would be a nightmare for me…. I get so much coming at in me in Twitter, stuff would get buried really quick.

Too bad they have really fallen behind because they have the ability to build awesome phones.

What kind of price on this?

  15. I caught that, this guy is a sales man period. He distracts us with fillers and talking, to hid the fact that this phone needs time to cache the UI renders or else it initially seems choppy. To also add to the chorus, the UI is unecessary and bloated. The whole idea about HTC’s Sense, the Mobile OSX and Win7 UI’s are to make transitions easier and the environment feel more expansive. That timescape looks constrictive both in looks and functionality. Sony Erricson is out of touch and is far worse in being responsive to consumer needs than companies like Palm and Motorola are/ were. I guarantee they will go bankrupt in a year and a half’s time, resulting in Sony to go it alone, Erricson as a design team suck. Lastly I have an Nokia N900, to be brutally honest it is a powerful phone and I recommend others invest in this hotrod of a phone.

Just recently the phone was OC’d to a stable 900MHz some even have it running at 1050MHz. It has mobile firefox, and it boasts a true Linux (debian build) OS.

To summarize what I’m saying … Wind mentioned they will support the N900, I suggest you wait for that or the next gen Iphone.
