Public Mobile “will completely change the face of telecommunications for the consumers benefit”

Public Mobile will be launching their wireless service in both Ontario in the coming months and the Montreal where they have the capacity to reach over 19 million people.

It’s always nice to know the people behind the scenes. We’ve interviewed CEO Alek Krstajic before, then saw a bunch of people from their Toronto office… but Public has released a new video that has the employees based in Montreal speaking about their upcoming services. Some of the employees state that Public Mobile is an “honest and straightforward company”, “a company that really listens”, “has a new vision for cellular phones”, “will completely change the face of telecommunications for the consumers benefit”.

What do you think… will Public be able to take on Rogers, Bell Videotron?

  1. All comes down to coverage. Lets hope where WIND has decided to expand east, Public Mobile will expand west.

  2. It’s not just about coverage but about equipment as well. So far Public Mobile has only one cell phone, the ZTE C78, that supports their quaint PCS G Band spectrum and according to the reviews, it isn’t a decent phone.
I’d only consider Public Mobile if I can can separately purchase a decent smart phone that can be used with any 3G+ spectrum/carrier, including theirs.
The physical phone and service purchase should be separate now since smart-phones have multiple purposes and are becoming more sophisticated.

  3. If by “Wll completely change the face of telecommunications for the consumers benefit” they mean “Sell out to Bell for a huge paycheck the moment the 5 year moratorium on spectrum sales is up.” then yes, I believe they will do just that.

  4. Start off by giving people what they want. Good and new technology at affordable prices. Customers also want good coverage. We’re on our way to LTE and you start a company up with CDMA? What was the point of this spectrum auction anyway? Can anyone build or afford to build a network at par with bell, telus or rogers?

  6. Honestly ? Nothing to think.

First, they start on a past technology, which does not show how much they think forward. I have to see a reason to deploying CDMA.

Second, these video just look like a commercial. Do you believe?

  7. They won’t sell out to any of the big 3 because the spectrum that public bought would be useless to them.

Their coverage will only be Ontario and Quebec as that is the only region they bought spectrum in.

Public’s play will not be to compete with the other carriers on cell phones, but rather get people to replace their home phones. Flat rate, no long distance call in Ontario and Quebec for $40/month (or less with competition).

With that in mind, their handsets only need to be as good as whatever you use as your home phone (assuming you have one).

Still not sure they will be successful, but their approach will be much different.

  8. I don’t think they got the memo that everyone uses smartphones now.

  10. They need national coverage and 3G smartphones.
