BlackBerry tops preference as “Canadians are migrating toward smartphones”

product_blackberrystormLast week the CRTC revealed some interesting Canadian mobile stats, and recently so did research firm IDC Canada. They say that Canadians are moving towards smartphones with BlackBerry (62% market share) as the leader and iPhone taking second spot.

IDC analyst Kevin Restivo said “Canadians are migrating toward smartphones… Apple with the iPhone has been really the one that has shaken up the market over the last year and really entered the top tier of smartphone players very quickly, it’s gaining ground on all players”. Although BlackBerry and the iPhone are leading with market share, in Q2 Samsung was the overall cellphone market leader with shipments. No official numbers were given, but in Canada a total estimate of 2.3 million cell phones were shipped. More here
